To create The Balvenie Tun 1858 Batch No.5, Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE carefully hand selected 10 different casks – four European oak sherry butts and six traditional oak barrels – from the distillery’s precious aged stocks. All were transferred to Tun 1858, where the whisky was left to marry for several months before being bottled at the distillery. This marrying process is a rare technique and allows the different elements of all 10 whiskies to combine together and create a unique single malt of exceptional character.
