DIAGEO: SCOTCH AND BOURBON

Blade and Bow Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey ($49.99):  This blend of 5 whiskies ranging from 6 to 20 years old is made at the historic Stizel-Weller Distillery, famous for having made weller and Van Winkle whiskies fr many years.  It is caramel colored, with soft aromas of fruit and oak reminiscent of an old-fashioned candy store. The flavors of baking spices are met with banana, apricot, roasted grains, and green apple that persists into a vanilla finish of candy apple.

IW Harper 15Yr Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey ($89.99):  Available in the U.S. for the first time in 20 years, the brand’s history goes back to the 1870s. Awarded the Gold Medal in 1893 at Chicago’s World Fair, not much has changed for this historic distillery. With notes of sweet corn, oak, vanilla, caramel and raisins, the finish is luxurious and gentle.

Dalwhinnie 15 Yr Single Malt Scotch ($64.99):  Opening aroma is assertive, dry, with peppery scents of barley husk, grainy oil and cracked wheat wafer; seven more minutes bring out a mildly sweeter, slightly vanilla bean, brown rice-like side. Palate entry is pleasantly prickly, textured and moderately sweet; at midpalate, the taste profile turns stunningly sappy and resin-like. Finishes dry to off-dry and keenly resiny.

Mortlach 16yr Single Malt Scotch ($119.99): A rich and sherried expression from Mortlach that’s will always be compared to the fan-favourite 16-year-old Flora & Fauna bottling. This is more balanced than that discontinued dram, with a mix of first-fill and refill sherry casks giving a wider range of sherry-cask character, from rich and dark dried fruit to plump and juicy berries.
