Domaine de Castelnau L’etang Picpoul de Pinet ($12.99): Light yellow coat with green glints. The nose develops exotic fruits aromas as well as iodized notes followed by floral notes of broom. The palate is strong on fruits, followed a floral bouquet with lychees notes. A long-lasting candied fruits sweetness on the finish.
Penya Languedoc Roussillon Rouge ($12.99): From a cooperative winery just 30 miles from Spain and heavily influenced by Catalan, this medium-bodied, unoaked red has aromas of black cherries, plums, and smoke. The grenache and syrah provide much of the fruit, while the carignane adds depth and an earthiness that makes it a natural pairing for pizza, barbecue or burgers.
Michael Pozzan Annabella Cabernet Sauvignon ($18.99): This Cabernet Sauvignon is an exuberant, juicy, red-fruit laced example of how Sonoma does Cabernet, and does it well. The nose is a sweetly integrated mingling of cranberry, boysenberry, and red currant, with subtle hints of fresh vanilla bean. In the mouth, the wine’s flavors spread broadly – juicy ripe blueberries, bright red cherries, layered densely over smoky coffee, dark chocolate, and caramelized oak char. The wine is well textured, and finishes with a lovely lingering hint of oak smoke.
