Cono Sur Orgaqnic Cabernet / Carmenere / Syrah ($12.99): This full-bodied red blend is made from organically grown grapes. Aged partly in French oak, and partly in stainless steel, this offering delivers red fruit followed by integrated tannins and a smooth chocolate and tobacco finish. This winery is cleverly named Cono Sur, (Southern Cone) after the shape of South America as well as a play on the term connoisseur.
Hamilton Russell Chardonnay ($39.99): Wine Spectator 93 pts / Robert Parker 93 pts.
This very well scored wine deserves all the praise it receives. Burgundian in style, this Chardonnay is Fresh and elegant, Lush and full, with melons, apples and peach, leading to a long mineral driven finish.
Caparzo Brunello di Montalcino ($39.99): Wine Spectator – 92 pts.
This is a strong wine from a consistent and benchmark producer. Sweet red cherry, plum, tobacco, mint, sweet spices and orange peel are all front and center. This is a gorgeous 2012 Brunello that represents everything the vintage can be; open-knit, accessible and polished.
Chateau de Beaucastel Chateauneuf-du-Pape ($89.99): Robert Parker 93 pts. / Wine Enthusiast 93 pts.
The 2013 Chateauneuf du Pape is a beauty and has a rare level of concentration and depth in the vintage. Blueberry, crushed flowers, pepper, and violet aromas and flavors flow nicely to a medium to full-bodied, structured and tannic Beaucastel that has impressive purity and plenty of length.
