OLD WORLD VS NEW WORLD WINES

August 17, 2018
Gramona Gran Reserva Imperial Cava ($29.99):  This Cava is rich and full bodied.  The grapes rest on their lees for 5 years.  The palate show notes of white peach and an extremely pleasant note of yeast, that is reminicent of very high end champagne.  Complexity abound this can hold it’s own against Champagne at much higher price points.
Momo Sauvignon Blanc ($15.99): From the Seresin Estate, this fresh Sauvignon Blanc comes from biodynamically farmed vineyards, and displays complex aromas of tropical and citrus fruits, fresh herbs, with a rich palate and refreshing acidity. Great as an aperitif or with light fish.

Au Bon Climat Santa Barbera Pinot Noir ($23.99):  Winemaker and owner Jim Clendenen, a pioneer who believed in the potential of CA’s Central Coast, has always favored precision over power, and nuance over extraction. These stylish pinot noirs are light-bodied, delicate, with aromas of red fruits, and meant to be shared with food.

Regis Bouvier Marsannay Les Longeroies Vieilles Vignes Rouge ($35.99): Régis Bouvier owns land in some of Marsannay’s top parcels, including Les Longeroies, where his oldest vines are situated. This vineyard yields deep, powerful wines with chewy tannins and hints of wild berries, game, and smoke. A Marsannay like this, from a superb year like 2015, offers loads of pleasure in its youth, but will also age and improve for at least fifteen years.
