Kilchoman Machir Bay Scotch ($61.99): The first distillery built on Islay in 125 years, Kilchoman is also one of the smallest in Scotland, and the only distillery that both grows and malts its own barley. Machir Bay, Kilchoman’s flagship expression, balances peat with lemon, vanilla, and understated fruity notes.
Smooth Ambler Old Scout Rye Whiskey ($44.99): Smooth Ambler Distillery is in West Virginia and although they do distill whiskey there, they also source some of their whiskeys from elsewhere. This 7-year rye comes from MGP in Indiana and features loads of classic rye spice and citrus peel along with a prominent herbal/dill element. Killer stuff!
Smooth Ambler Old Scout Bourbon ($44.99): High-rye bourbon blended from whiskeys aged in barrel for a minimum of 7 years and bottled at 99 proof. Mint, apricot, vanilla and citrus dominate the palate. Awarded Best of Show and Best of Class by the American Distilling Institute in 2012, Old Scout is growing in reputation among Bourbon enthusiasts.
