Talisker’s Distiller’s Edition ($79.99): Aged for a minimum of 10 years the Distiller’s edition is finished in Amarosa sherry casks. Crisp peat at first then softens to enormous richness in the mouth. There’s sweet, roasty malt with a heathery dryness. The sherry notes keep back some of Talisker’s usual pepper. In its place is luscious, slightly oily sweetness – with ripe, juicy fruit and vanilla. The finish has some very deep cocoa notes, vanilla and lingering with quite earthy peat. An enormously chewable single malt, with sweetness having the edge on dryness.
Oban Distiller’s Edition ($89.95):
The Oban Distiller’s Edition is aged for a minimum of 14 years, before being finished in Fino Sherry cask. The Sherry casks lend a friutyness to the dry but smooth Oban. he flavor is full and rich, with complex notes of tangy salt, butterscotch, caramel and toffee, which ultimately lead to a lingering, smoky and sweet finish.
Lagavulin Distiller’s Edition ($99.25): Aged for a minimum of 16 years. It is then finished in Pedro Ximenez Sherry casks. These dessert Sherry casks add a bright sweetness to the full flavor of this peaty Islay. it is luxuriously rich, with fruitcake and gingerbread, rum-soaked raisins, malty, toffee, caramel, hints of pepper and clove spice. This arrives with hints of peat, slightly earthy and mossy and some embers, oak wood, dried fruit in molasses, with a slightly menthol or eucalyptus note at the end.
