We are delighted to announce the long-awaited return of a favored representative of one of our most treasured local wine-makers to Oak and Barrel for our free tasting Thursday evening. The lovely, affable and knowledgeable Karolina will be joining us from 5 to 8 PM to pour sample tastes of several of the finest offerings of South Fork, Long Island mainstay (and apparent Justin Bieber favorite), Wolffer Estates Winery.
We can’t ever be vocal enough about proclaiming our enthusiasm for Wolffer and their fantastic, world class wines, but we are never more excited than when they join us here at the shop to pour their delicious wines for some of our other favorite people – you!
Pop in any time during the tasting to try the Dry Rosé Cider, The Summer-in-a-Bottle White blend, The ‘Perle’ Chardonnay and the impeccable Fatalis Fatum Bordeaux Blend. This flight represents some of the best, most enjoyable and seasonally perfect labels that an already great winery produces. Read on below for more information on these fabulous featured wines that will help make this a summer to remember.
Summer in a Bottle White ($25.99): Bright yellow in color, flecked with highlights of intense gold. Bursting with amazing succulent aromas of lychees, papaya and cantaloupe. The wine is rich, lush and intense with wonderful play between the ripe fruit and the elegant acidity. The mouth-feel has a classic silky texture balanced with minerality and fine hints of lees-aging with a similarity to the finish of a fine sake or an Alsatian Edelzwicker.
Chardonnay ‘Perle’ ($29.99): Golden in color, with highlights of bright straw color. Classic, abundant aromas of ripe tropical fruit, honeysuckle, flinty crushed stones, wonderful yeast notes, and fine toasted oak. A well-defined palate that seems world-class in its effortless elegance, more dense than heavy, like polished steel. A perfect balance of ripe fruit and rich texture enhanced with fantastic acidity and the creamy influence of the lees.
Fatalis Fatum ($34.94): Dark red brick in color, this solid and substantial Bordeax-style blend (Fatalis Fatum is latin for “final decision”) gives beautifully balanced, nuanced aromas of cassis, plum jam, dried figs, sandalwood and a hint of vanilla. The mouth-feel is rich and concentrated with wonderful complexity. The Fatalis has a seamless elegance and intensity from start to the finish, which has great warmth, fruit and tannin-driven power, evident in the lengthy supple finish. Overall the strength of this blend is its amazing balance. It will age beautifully for many, many years to come.
