Le Havre de Paix cotes de Gascogne Blanc ($9.99):  Le Havre de Paix has a classic light freshness, somewhat reminiscent of White Bordeaux, but with a soft, smooth character. Well balanced with aromas of pear and apple, the palate is crisp and softly fruited with a lemon zest finish.

Bernard Defaix Les Hauts de Milly Rully Blanc 1er Cru ($29.99):  Available in the U.S. for the first time in 20 years, the brand’s history goes back to the 1870s. Awarded the Gold Medal in 1893 at Chicago’s World Fair, not much has changed for this historic distillery. With notes of sweet corn, oak, vanilla, caramel and raisins, the finish is luxurious and gentle.

Domaine J Boulon Morgon ($16.99): This Cru Beaujolais from Morgon, the second largest of the Crus, is 100% Gamay. It’s full of ripe red fruit and broad tannins. This will age for 5 to 10 years, and is an amazing value Cru Beaujolais.

Chateau Bernadotte Haut Medoc Cru Bourgeois ($24.99): The great dominance of Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend has given this wine both a fine structure and crisp swathes of black-currant fruit. It is a firm wine at this stage, although the fine fruitiness will become an important part of the taste. The estate is named after one of Napoleon’s generals who became King of Sweden.
