Bernard Defaix Les Haut de Milly Rully Blanc 1er Cru Les Cloux ($29.99): There is ample flesh and yet it’s a racy, tangy wine overall with hints of florals, pear and citrus fruit along with a kiss of spicy oak. The balance is as lovely as ever at this Domaine, with a textured, poised mouth-feel, supported by vibrant acidity that brings freshness and length.
Petite Clocher Anjou Rouge ($12.99):
Pure bright smoky fruits give this wine its edge of tannin and great red plum and spice flavors. Its youth adds a dry character to the fruitiness and acidity.
Francois Confuron-Gindre Vosne Romanee ($62.99): Located just down the road from Domaine Romanee Conti, this amazing value is rich in body with great structure. Bright and dense aromas of ripe dark fruit and a hint of spice. The mouthfeel is dense and coating with notes of black cherries and accents of spice and minerality leading into a long detailed finish.
Chateau Bernadotte Haut-Medoc Cru Bourgeois ($24.99): The great dominance of Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend has given this wine both a fine structure and crisp swathes of black-currant fruit. It is a firm wine at this stage, although the fine fruitiness will become an important part of the taste. The estate is named after one of Napoleon’s generals who became King of Sweden.
