On Friday, we have a special treat for our clientele, in the form of a focused tasting that will take us all over the legendary wine-making regions of Italy. From the windswept Alpine north to the sun-drenched vineyards of Sicily in the south, Italian wines are made from hundreds of varietals in dozens of styles and on this Friday we will be featuring an impressive quartet that we thinks helps Italy put its best boot forward.
Adorno Pinot Grigio ($19.99) Tired of boring, insipid, watered-down pinot grigio? Then this one’s for you. This rich and elegant wine stays refreshing and juicy while offering aromas of ripe pear and fresh floral notes through a long, pleasing finish. Enjoy the singular brilliance of this Lombardian wine by itself or with a plate of pasta.
Maggio Vini Cerasuolo di Vittoria ($21.99): This organic Sicilian gem offers luscious bright red cherry notes with brilliant hints of pomegranate and wild herbs that come seamlessly together in this medium bodied and easy-drinking, yet effortlessly elegant Italian red. The Cerasuolo di Vittoria is Sicily’s only DOCG appellation, in spite of Sicily having proportionately, the most acres under vine of any of the Italian regions.
Giovanni Dri Cabernet Sauvignon ($19.99): Intense ruby-red with depth and concentration, this Cabernet from one Northern Italy’s highly regarded producers offers herbaceous aromas along with hints of ripe red fruit on the nose. Red cassis, anise and woodsy notes fill out a rich, rounded palate that carries through to a lengthy finish.
