The famously meaty Mortlach is a world apart from the light and fruity aromas Speyside is typically known for, and this impressive 30 Year Old, subtitled Midnight Malt, is embracing that. It’s matured in refill American oak and European oak, before being split between three different cask types for a finishing period: Bordeaux wine, Calvados, and Guatemalan rum. That’s a cask trio you don’t see every day! The result is a complex mix of peppery spice, orchard fruits, and chocolate flavours.
